The Law, Dundee BandBack to Dundee Ambassadors

The Law, Dundee Band

Stuart Purvey and Stevie Anderson, along with brothers Simon and Martin Donald, formed Dundee indie rock band The Law in 2004 and have gone on to achieve wide-spread success and acclaim for their music. All are proud Dundonians happy to wax lyrical about their hometown.

Geographically, Dundee is perfectly situated. Sat on the north bank of the river, at the foot of a volcano and it's Britain's sunniest city! It might not be the hottest place to be but when the sun shines it definitely makes people happy. The best view of Dundee has to be when you're coming back into the city through the hills and onto the railway bridge - it's unreal! Also, when you look across the water at night from the Law Hill, it looks like a floating city.

Dundee is a great city! There's a brilliant buzz in Dundee at the moment - it feels alive. Our favourite spots change from time to time depending on what we're up to but you can always find a great space in Dundee to chill out and get away from it all. From the top of the Law hill with its 360º views across the city, to watching the sun set from Balmerino beach or even kicking a ‘fitba' about in Dudhope Park - there are lots of great places to be.

Dundee has some pretty cool tourist attractions. The Unicorn is one of the oldest ships in the world and well worth a visit. It gets overshadowed by The Discovery - but as Britain's oldest floating frigate it's still really cool. The Mills Observatory is another gem and you don't just have to go to see the stars - we have great memories of hanging around Balgay Hill in our younger days with our heads in the clouds.

The people of Dundee are unique. Our accents undoubtedly set us apart and you're always guaranteed a laugh! There is such a wealth of talent in Dundee wrestling to get out there at the moment who deserve to be celebrated - it's an exciting time. We need more people like Gary Robertson, the Dundee Street Poet, who writes in our local dialect and is very much keeping this alive. His poems are legendary and hilarious!

Dundee's cultural scene is on fire. I think it must have something to do with the volcanic earth. There's always a good band emerging - but it's not just music either - we've got great writers, poets and artists too. While we've got great music venues it would be nice to see another one. The Caird Hall is great and steeped in history but we could do with a slightly smaller, purpose built venue with great acoustics.

Dundee has always reinvented itself. As a city it's improved greatly over the years, which has been great to see. But there is always room for improvement. Something we'd really like to see is Dundee having its own Hogmanay celebrations. All the other big cities have events going on now, so it would be good to see this happen. There are so many local bands that would play on the line up, as well as artists that would love to come and play to the Dundonian crowd, who are amazing!

Dundee needs to remain ambitious. In 2010 - it has so much going for it and as long as it remains determined and keeps moving forward it can only go from strength to strength. Involving younger generations is a big part of this - it's really important that their voice is heard so we can shape our city's future based on what they would like to see more of in their hometown.
