John James (Jimmy) MacDonald Back to Innovators

Born in Dundee in 1906, John James (Jimmy) MacDonald left with his family aged only one month old for the USA and went on to become the voice of Mickey Mouse for over 40 years, taking over from creator Walt Disney in 1946. Jimmy was passionate about his work in Disney's sound effects department. He also ended up voicing Dumbo's circus train, Pluto's laugh, Sneezy's sneeze and created thousands more voices and sound-effects until he retired in 1976.
