Thomas Carenelley arrived in Dundee in 1882 to become a Professor, setting up a laboratory and department for the second time - his first had been at Firth College in Sheffield. His major contributions to the study of chemistry were from his support and research on Benzene - used in the production of modern materials such as plastics - and on Periodic Law.
