Attractions along the Waterfront

A family-friendly, pedestrianised hub with more than 5,000 car parking spaces, Dundee's compact city centre offers a range of shopping. The Overgate and Wellgate shopping centres with the Forum Centre in-between offer a mix of high street and designer shopping.

A number of historic visitor attractions in the city take you on a tour of Dundee past. Launched on 30th March 1824, HMS Unicorn was designed as one of the last of the successful Leda class frigates, 150 feet long and armed with 46 guns. Take a step back in time to when Britannia ruled the waves an experience what is now one of the best preserved and least altered wooden hull ships in the world.

The Royal Research Ship (RRS), Discovery is moored at Discovery Point in Dundee and open for visitor tours. Built in the city in 1900, RRS Discovery was the ship, which carried Captain Scott on his first expedition across the Antarctic. She was constructed in Dundee and returned home in 1986. Dolphins in the Tay

There is no better way to see the city and its wildlife than taking a trip along the famous River Tay. Numerous tour operators offer trips from March to September. Bottlenose dolphins and seals are regular visitors to the estuary, and the famous hump back whale still remains part of Dundee folklore.

Looking to the future, the Sensation centre hopes to inspire the scientists of tomorrow. It is part of the Scottish Science Centres Network and offers a fun way to learn about all things science-related.

Dundee also boasts a bustling and eclectic arts and cultural scene, with the Dundee Contemporary Arts Centre (DCA) at its heart. Leading architect, Richard Murphy, designed this iconic gallery. Home to a filmhouse, print-makers workshop, restaurant and café bar, the DCA is a family-friendly venue, which also offers an outdoor amphitheatre space ideal for a spot of al-fresco drinking and eating.

The renowned Dundee Rep is a theatre and arts company which stages its own productions and also hosts visiting works including drama, musicals, contemporary and classical dance, children's theatre, comedy, jazz and opera.  The Rep is located in Tay Square at the centre of the city's cultural quarter in the West End.
