For British Heart Foundation (BHF) Scotland, Dundee really is at the heart of discovery.  We are funding research at University of Dundee to discover why around 40-50% of people who die of a heart attack have never experienced any of the usual risk factors associated with heart disease.  These people are not smokers, not over weight, not diabetic, do not have high cholesterol or blood pressure, but sadly die of a heart attack despite being relatively young, fit and healthy.  This is often referred to as "silent ischaemia".

The research in Dundee is discovering what is causing this and what tests can be done to help save the life you love.

Dundee has a proud history of innovation, an international reputation in heart research, and an outstanding track record in life sciences research.  The BHF Scotland research that is taking place in Dundee is focused on patients in Dundee, but could potentially save millions of lives worldwide.

Dundonians are a fantastic bunch, rightly proud of their fabulous city and very generous with their time and money.  We need more and more people to get on board with our Heart of Discovery Appeal to help us raise the £100,000 we urgently need to ensure the research at University of Dundee is completed.

BHF Scotland will be asking the lovely people of Dundee to have a clear out at home and take part in our Big Donation in September.  On this occasion, we don't want your money, we want  you to discover your unwanted clothes, jewellery, shoes, handbags, books, bric-a-brac etc.  Anything that you don't use or wear anymore can be converted into cash by BHF and help fund nurses and research throughout the whole of the UK.
