LP Youth Festival & Opening of City Sq
24 August 2013
The Lord Provost's Youth Festival is a huge celebration of Dundee Youth and gets underway on Saturday 24th August 2013 from 10.30am-4.00pm. This annual event takes over the city centre from Albert Square down to the City Square seeing around 450 local youngsters showcasing their talent and promoting membership of their groups to others.
City Square has undergone a major refurbishment over the past few months and this event will mark the official opening of the Square.
This year Wave 102 will be on stage to MC the proceedings and will introduce performances on stage in City Square. There will be a vast array of information stalls in the High Street to inspire you as well as climbing walls, a fire engine and a harrier cockpit. In Reform Street, Sprint Dundee will be hosting city race finals and a mascot race featuring mascots from the DUNCAN scheme, Dundee Ice Arena and Dundee Science Centre.
For the first time this year the event will see The McManus: Dundee's Art Gallery and Museum throw its doors open to young people. You can get creative with the Learning team when they host drop-in creative workshops both inside and outside in Albert Square or take part in quizes and trails around the building.
To mark the official opening of City Square, Cutting Edge Ceilidh Band will call dances at our open-air ceilidh to which everyone is invited to join in.
