Christmas Lights Switch-on
Santa Claus, the Lord Provost of Dundee, and representatives from dance charity ‘Showcase The Street' put the finishing touches to Dundee's Christmas tree, ahead of the Christmas lights switch-on ceremony tonight.
‘Showcase the Street' are set to perform their award winning dance routines at Light Nights, just months after winning at the Euro Disney Championships at Disneyland Paris.
Some of the hand-made lanterns, made by local community groups for the annual Christmas Torchlight Procession, following a route between McManus Galleries and Caird Hall, will also be on display ahead of the city's Christmas celebrations.
Dundee's Christmas festivities and the finale event for Festival of Architecture will open in Dundee on tonight.
A headline event in the Year of Innovation, Architecture and Design 2016 with support from Scottish Government, Light Nights is set to celebrate the start of Dundee's Christmas festivities alongside Scotland's architecture in a vibrant street celebration. In addition to the Christmas lights switch-on ceremony, light projections will illuminate the construction detail of Dundee's newest landmark, V&A Dundee whilst the city's oldest surviving building, The Steeple will become the stage for an interactive light show.
The packed programme of events also includes a carnival, fireworks, a big winter warm-up exercise event in City Square, torchlight procession, night market at Slessor Gardens, street theatre performances, carol singing and architectural exhibitions.
Light Nights Dundee, Friday 18 November 4.00 - 10.00 p.m. Free to attend. Light projections continue on Saturday 19 November and the Dundee Festival of Architecture opens from Saturday 19th at West Ward Works, Guthrie Street.
