SELS17 - The Untold Story of the Oor Wullie Bucket Trail

A behind-the-scenes view of the Oor Wullie Bucket Trail from two Dundee University graduates David Cunningham, Chief Executive of ARCHIE, and the Bucket Trails Art Coordinator Suzanne Scott. We look at how Dundee's biggest ever public event captured the imagination of countless children of all ages and culminated in an auction viewed by hundreds of thousands of people from every corner of the globe.

This event will be chaired by Ellis Watson, CEO of DC Thomson Publishing who was integral to the project.

To celebrate the 80th anniversary of The Broons and Oor Wullie, we’re delighted to share this unique group exhibition in partnership with DC Thomson, in which six artists will create playful responses to the publisher’s extensive archives. Each artist has visited the DC Thomson archives and will be exhibiting their own individual take on the rich cultural history of Dundee publishing. The six exhibiting artists are: Rob Churm, Rabiya Choudhry, Craig Coulthard, Malcy Duff, Hideyuki Katsumata and Sofia Sita.

Taken from over 20 separate expeditions, ‘Travels to Present Day Antarctica’ is a new exhibition from photographer Roger Slade depicting the cold landscape of the last great wilderness on earth.

Featuring over 40 eye-catching images from areas such as the Antarctic Peninsula, the South Shetland Islands and also the sub Antarctic islands of South Georgia and the Falklands this exhibition aims to give a taste of what life is like on the coldest, highest, windiest and most remote continent on our planet.

Edge Textiles are a collective of artists from Edinburgh, Dundee and Glasgow who aim to promote excellence in all aspects of contemporary textiles. Their inaugural exhibition was held at McManus Galleries, Dundee in 2000 and now they return to Dundee with a body of work, in a variety of different mediums, inspired by the jute industry, its legacy on the city and Verdant Works itself.
