DENNIS AND GNASH DASH

The World’s First Dennis and Gnash Dash!  Join us for the funnest fun run to takeover Dundee City Centre, turning the streets red and black.  All ages are welcome to run, walk, wheel or hop the route dressed in our favourite Dennis colours. Gnasher look-a-likes also welcome! Medals guaranteed.

Details

The Dennis and Gnash Dash is a fun run around Dundee city centre, on closed roads. The dash will start and finish in City Square, with a circular route that can be run twice to make approx. 4km, or just once if 2km is enough!  Volunteers and stewards will be along the route to direct participants.

 

 

Race Day Programme

There will be plenty of fun to be had on race day with music and dancers keeping the crowds entertained. Full programme line up is as follows:-

9.30am - Registration

10.15am - Warm Up Session

10.30am - Dennis and Gnash Dash start time

11.30am - Race Ends as all participants cross the finish line

 

Our commentators will cheer you on as you cross the finish line back into City Square through our special race gantry. 

After the race pose for selfies with your exclusive ‘I ran the Dennis and Gnash Dash’ badge, and stay for the rest of the festival fun in the city centre.

 

THE FUN STUFF...

WHAT TO WEAR ON THE DAY – Well this one’s easy – any red and black t-shirts, shorts, jumpers, jackets, trackie bottoms or trews will do! Why not customise your outfit with some stripes? Or join the McManus’ Family Fun activities on the day before (Saturday 16th July) when they’ll be helping folk to get costumes ready. Or if you’re feeling crafty, why not showcase your best Gnasher costume on the day.

Official Beano T shirts are available to buy from shop.beano.com/clothing-accessories and in person at DC Thomson’s reception on Albert Square in Dundee too.

PRIZES – everybody gets a participant badge and medals will be awarded for best costume, biggest hat, cheeriest dog, biggest smile, most enthusiasm, and most mischievous Dennis!

 

Registration

All participants must sign-in and pick up their race number before the race begins at the appropriate registration desk as dictated by your Surname. Registration desks will be clearly marked to show which desk you need to go to. Registration desks will be open from 9.30am so please ensure that you are there in plenty of time to sign-in prior to the big race starting.

You do not need to print your EventBrite ticket, but please have this available to show on your device if asked.

Race Route

The race will start and finish in Dundee’s City Square, following a route through the City Centre as detailed on our website and below. It is a 2km lap and can either be done once or twice if you wish to complete the full 4km race. Those who are completing the full 4km should turn left at the bottom of Reform Street to continue around the route again. Anyone finishing after 2km should continue straight ahead from Reform Street and cross the finish line back in City Square. Stewards will be on hand to guide you on the day.

Travelling to the Event

Travelling into Dundee City Centre will be available via bus or by Car but please remember that we will have roads closed and that diversions will be in place so allow plenty of time to reach the event. Full details on roads closed can be found at the end of this document. Whilst there isn’t parking available on site, there are numerous car parks available including:

    Shore Terrace Car Park, DD1 3AH

    Gellatly Street Car Park, DD1 3DY

    Overgate Shopping Centre, Bank Street Car Park, DD1 1RW

    Wellgate Centre Car Park, DD1 2DB

Bus - local

There are many bus stops within 150m of City Square, located on Nethergate and Crichton Street.

Bus – outer city

The nearest Bus Station is Seagate Bus Station located on Seagate, Dundee, DD1 2HR. The Bus Station is approximately 0.3miles from City Square.

 

Spectators

We would welcome all spectators to come down and cheer on our participants at any part of the route. The more encouragement they get the better the atmosphere will be so please come and join in the fun.

 

Accessibility

The route selected is fully accessible with only a few flat cobbles along the way on High Street, Panmure Street and Barrack Street. There is also a slight incline on Constitution Road and a matching decline on Court House Square.

 

Race Number

Your race number is important as without this, you cannot enter the race. You will be able to collect this at the registration desk on the morning of the event and it should be fastened securely to your costume with the safety pins provided. Do not fold, cut down or deface the number in anyway.

Please bring your own safety pins for your race number to attach to you. We will have some safety pins available if you need more.

 

FACILITIES

Lost Children – stewards and lost childrens systems will be in place on the day, please report to staff in City Square with any queries.

First Aid – we’ll have first aid in City Square and a team following the dash to be on hand if needed.

Water – please bring your own refillable water bottles – there is a water refill point just along from City Square at the Murraygate.

Toilets – Portable toilets, including a disabled and baby change facility, will be available at City Square with plenty of others in the nearby shopping centres. A Changing Places toilet is located at Dundee Train Station.

Access details – the route is mostly flat, on the streets of Dundee.  There are some areas of cobbles along Murraygate and gentle inclines.

BSL interpreters will be on site to support any interpretation needs.
