Aberdeen Sinfonietta Summer Concert
Following their first very enjoyable and successful visit to the Caird Hall last year, Aberdeen Sinfonietta returns with another exciting programme, under the baton of their principal conductor, Garry Walker. Two powerful and stirring works by Tchaikovsky begin and end the programme - his Dances from the little-known opera The Oprichnik, and his "Little Russian" Symphony, which makes considerable use of Ukrainian ("Little Russian") folk tunes. The distinguished Russian-born violinist Anna-Liisa Bezrodny, no stranger to the Caird Hall, joins the orchestra for possibly the finest of Mozart's violin concertos. As in last year's concert, Aberdeen Sinfonietta includes a work by a composer with strong Aberdeenshire connections. Joe Stollery's Grampian Picture is, in his own words, an evocation of "the sights and sounds of the Grampian landscape I'm familiar with".
