Dundee’s claim to be home of both marmalade and Dundee cake can be found in the Keiller family archive, a Dundee based confectionary business that ranked above Cadbury and Rowntree in the late 1800’s.

Founder of the Keiller dynasty, Janet Keiller was the first to create the distinctive all butter sultana cake flavoured with candied orange peel and topped with whole Spanish almonds in the 19th century.

Today, Dundee’s bakers are on a mission to revive the original Dundee cake recipe for the city and are working to achieve EU Protected Geographical Indication for the lightly fruited aromatic cake.

The local delicacy can be bought from bakeries throughout the city and is often found on the menu’s of contemporary cafes and restaurants in and around Dundee.  Alternatively why not bake your own.
