Dundee's Maritime Pasts and Futures - Exploration Day
Join us for a day of explorations into the river Tay’s past, present and future. Four speakers will share stories of Dundee’s whaling industry and the changing landscape of the river, reflecting on how the past shapes our current experience and what the future might bring for the Tay and the people who live with it. Both sessions will include two speakers, as well as time for questions, discussion and some short activities – as well as live drawing by Cara Rooney! The talks and discussions today will feed into the development of a new online resource from Dundee Libraries on the city’s maritime past, present and future. Morning session: 9.30-12.15 Speakers Malcolm Archibald - The Dundee Whalers Professor Rob Duck – The Tay: The Story of a Remarkable Estuary. Afternoon Session: 1.00-3.30 Speakers Dr Matthew Ylitalo - Whaling and Historical Transformations. Manuela de los Rios - Living with Rivers (Titles are currently provisional). Lunch will be provided on the day. Please let us know about any allergies or dietary requirements when you book. If you would like to attend but can only make the morning or afternoon session, we would be happy for people to come for part of the day - just let us know when you book.
