Walking through the door of “Braithwaite’s” coffee and tea merchants on Castle Street is like stepping back in time. Trading since the 19th century, Braithwaite’s roasts its own coffee beans on the premises using a secret age-old method. Specialist cheese deli “The Cheesery” on the atmospheric Exchange Street stocks local and continental cheeses and has a loyal customer base with people travelling miles to shop there. Just a few doors down you’ll find the artfully presented “Heartspace Whole Foods” – an organic grocery story with juice bar, stocking artisan bread and cupboard essentials for all specialist diets. Fraser’s Fruit and Veg (pictured) is a popular greengrocer’s on neighbourly Perth Road selling local fruit and veg and a rotating range of soup bags which are so famous, they’re featured in a Frasers Soup cookery book!

Scotland’s first fresh veg vending machine installed in Dundee

You might not automatically think about visiting a shopping mall or a boutique hotel to buy your eggs and fruit and veg, but here in Dundee we love to do things differently. In a modern twist on a farm honesty box, Dundee can claim to have led the way in exploring new ways for shoppers to connect with the fantastic fresh food grown on our doorstep.

Indie Markets

Many of Dundee’s artists, jewellers, designers and artisan food traders often come together to create pop-up markets particularly in the Summer months or around Christmas time.
